BYU Demo finished

This is the finish - it was a lot of fun working on it and talking to students. I was happy that they thought it was funny...or at least didn't beat me up for poking fun. I worked on it in class for about 4 hours and spent an additional 2 at home putting a few finishing touches on it.

This is the digital stage where my main concern is getting everything no lighter than about 50% value. Using photoshop I spent about 20 minutes laying in shadows and color and then printed it on watercolor paper - then I stipple a layer of acrylic gel medium over the print and it's ready to start painting.

  3. Those eye warts really creep me out.

Nice colors, very fun. Thanks for doing this demo for us lowly student types.

  5. I've kind of made it a general rule not to respond to annonymous posts but I'll break that rule in this case. From your above post I can only conclude that my painting offended you. My purpose in painting a BYU alumni with a tatoo and cigarette was to do something unexpected - that's what I teach as an educator - to be creative. I would never do a piece like this for publication or commercial purposes and the only place you will see it is here on my blog. In no way did I do it to harm the reputaion of students that have gone, go, or will go to BYU. It was intended to get a laugh which it did.

Your comment above seemed to be intended to hurt my feelings so I'll ask you which is worse? A guy smoking with a tatoo - a guy painting a guy smoking with a tatoo OR someone making a rude comment with hurtful intentions? Jesus said, "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone..."

If you are a Christian then you know that Jesus loves me the same as he loves you.

  6. Anonymous is probably one of your friends having a laugh. If not, it's someone without a sense of humor. Either way, I wouldn't pay much attention to comments like that. I think your painting is hilarious. On the other hand, I'm one of those heathen ex-Mormons, so don't listen to anything I say either.

    Your loving sister, Beth

  7. Oh, also, I thought it was funnier with the BYU tattoo, but like I said... no need to listen to me. :-)
